BOATING and Fishing in Southeast Georgia

This page is intended to be informative and entertaining for those persons interested in boating and fishing. You don't have to be from Southeast Georgia to appreciate or benefit from this page. Of course, it will certainly make more sense if you live in this area.

ABOUT ME

My name is Joe Kiegel and I have been boating for a good portion of my life and fishing for about half that time. I'm 48, so you can do the math! I'm currently working for a defense contractor at the Kings Bay Naval Submarine Base in Saint Marys, Georgia. I am responsible for electronic testing, maintenance and repair. Fortunately, there's twelve excellent Electronics Technicians available to do these things; while I tend to the millions of unplanned events that require my attention!

When I'm not at work, working around the house or spending excessive amounts of time on the Internet; I like to fish or cruise in my 23' Sea Ray Express Cruiser. Although I haven't gotten around to having the name put on her yet, it will be "Lazy Angler." The name is appropriate because we fish in comfort. If the weather is bad, we don't go. The whole idea behind fishing is relaxation and fun. Everyone has their own ideas of fun. I like to sit in a comfortable seat, in the shade, sip cold drinks, listen to music, and catch an occasional fish! Sometimes, we would rather ride than fish. With the "Lazy Angler," we can do all these.

As I put this WEB Page together, I'll be adding links to various sources of information that will be of interest to the average boater or fisherman. I plan to have the latest possible fishing reports, but since I don't get out as often as others, I'll have to rely on the reports of others. If anyone cares to supply fishing reports, you can E-mail me and I'll add your report to the page.

This is the "Lazy Angler"

She's a 23 foot Sea Ray Express Cruiser powered by a 228 HP Mercruiser I/O. She has a full galley and stand-up head and is very comfortable for local fishing, cruising and overnight camping. Cruising speed is 23 to 25 knots and top speed is 31 knots.

The Green Groupers

The Green Groupers are a group of guys that I met on a Saltwater fishing message board in early 1997. We had trouble with the WEB Master and migrated to another board that was run by an intelligent and industrious WEB Master named Duff. He listened to the group when there were suggestions, and made changes that were agreeable to the group. The group grew and grew. Duff put in a Membership application page to gather data and keep a record of the members. Soon a “Profiles” page was added for the members to tell something of themselves. Before long, the group was several hundred strong and still growing. Some small groups of members that live near each other, began to meet for fishing and camping events that became known as “Runamucks.” These guys had a great time and shared their adventures with the rest of the message board by posted reports and pictures. In doing so, this became a shared event by all. Courtesy of the great WWW!
Soon we had plans for a meeting of the Groupers that was to be the largest, yet. It became known as the “Reunion” and was planned for months. Greylight (a member living in Fort Pierce, FL) and Duff worked hard to make this a success and, it was. Check the GG Gallery page. The Reunion took place in Fort Pierce on April 29, 1998. It was the first “Annual Reunion” and, as the name implies, will be followed by the “Second, Third”, and so on. There were about 40 members to show up and about a dozen boats. There was a lot of fishing, drinking, eating and enjoying each other’s company. Since we are all fishing computer geeks, we had a lot in common and really hit it off. Many wonderful friendships emerged as a result. Check out the Green Grouper Message Board. You won’t be disappointed!
